ladyofshadow	3:26p	Life Between Libraries I received training for the Civil Service Collection and I'm really excited about it. I learned how to expedite orders for exam booklets we may not have for upcoming exams. I get to check city, county, and state pending exams on a weekly basis. It'll be quite interesting when I take over the collection in January as it is highly circulating. I've also been ordering books, weeding through my collection, maintaining displays, processing new materials, working the reference desk, and just the other day I learned how to use the book lift in the closed stacks (the hidden floors of the library, oh yes, the downtown library has hidden floors that you need an access code to enter). ---------- Dear Patrons, When asking a reference question and then waiting for the answer, please do NOT smack your gum and proceed to snap it in your mouth over and over and over again while hanging over me. It makes me twitch and it is annoying as hell. I am not the only one who thinks as such. Also, just because a book doesn't have the exact WORD you're looking for, there are similar words that mean the SAME thing. Really, asking three librarians and getting the same response wasn't enough of a hint? Sincerely, Your Neighborhood Friendly Librarian ----------- Let's see, WSE stuff is going well too. I've been weeding through nonfiction, maintaining the library facebook, and doing my usual there. I may also have a hand in developing a Disaster Management Policy and Evacuation Procedures. We shall see. While the system has those policies, our branch does not quite have the specifics for our location. In other news, I've started to read The Dresden Files series by Jim Butcher. It's really quite enjoyable. Dresden is one awesome, badass wizard (who I think sometimes just needs a hug and a first aid kit permanently attached to his belt). In other other news, the house is still being worked on. We've got tile in the bathroom and the kitchen is being worked on. Cupboards are installed and next will be the countertops, then appliances when those are ordered. We've still got a ways to go. Current Mood: busy (1 Comment |Comment on this)

ladyofshadow	7:44p	Oh snow storms...you are ever so interesting to drive through... Today I was slated to work an evening shift at the West Seneca Library. I left early because it was essentially whiteout conditions, but not too bad (I couldn't quite see across the street). I made it to work and I don't think there was more than 3 patrons in the library at any one time. I hung out with my coworkers and snapped some random photos. ( Because I was in a random mood ) The conditions gradually worsened and when our librarian that was on the way called in to say she was stuck just outside of the library, a coworker and myself ran out with shovels in hand. We helped to dig her out to get her over to the parking lot and helped push a patron out of a spot as well. It was then that we made the decision to close the building. The winds, combined with the snow were just awful. It cleared up a bit and we dashed out to our cars to dig them out. The Town Guys had snowplowed part of the lot and the nice guys helped to dig me out (and one even helped to push me out). The drive home my speed limit was a constant 20mph. I saw one car stuck so far into a ditch that I only saw one of its tires. 0__0 My car handled well in the snow and I managed to get home all right. Here's to hoping my commute into the city on Friday will go smoothly and we don't get socked again. Current Mood: cold (1 Comment |Comment on this)

ladyofshadow	12:50p	Weiss Kreuz Noir I almost forgot to post about this!!!  Over the course of several months, I participated with several Weiss Kreuz fans to come up with some Noir themed stories/art over on LJ.  Our deadline was last month and it was great to see what everyone contributed. I present the lovely community project of.... weisskreuznoir Cosplay Photo Story:  Shadow of a Night, by yours truly with a "down-on-his-luck but damn sexy Yohji Kudo."  Two stories from a Weimar-era Weiss Kreuz 'verse set in Berlin (1932). Für Immer Verloren (part 1) (part 2) by daegaer + illustration by indelicateink Crawford sat at a table near the front of the dingy café, sipping the worst champagne he had ever had cause to drink. ladyofshadow	10:36p	You know you've reached a new level of crazy when you start to dream in novels... So, my mom has pneumonia (I convinced her to go to the doctor because that's what I thought she had). The cold that we've shared has escalated in her and I'm trying to avoid her fate. My cold is gone, it's my sinuses that are proving to be difficult in light of the recent snowfall. I've gotten little sleep because of her snoring because the poor thing can't breathe at night. I've also been having f*cked up dreams because of it. I've been dreaming in novels. As in I'm READING entire novels that I've never read before in my sleep. After reading the passages in the book, the scene in my head turns into a movie that I watch. The one last night involved a male Cop who was chasing after a female killer and when she lured him to her home, she kept trying to seduce him, then sets him up to kill someone, causing him to shoot out of cold instinct. It's in that moment that DUN DUN DUN he realizes that the case he was following was of another serial killer that the female was a copycat and that killer was....him. He had lost his memories and in that cold blooded moment, he realized just who he was...then he shot himself. 0_____0! Suspense-filled, but f*cked up. There was another one that involved the Demon Librarian of Hell's Library at a conference talking about difficult patrons with the Angel Librarian of Heaven's Library. They proceeded to then discuss an interlibrary loan service with the Limbo Librarian by conference "phone" (it was a conch shell). 0_o; Speaking of the library not in my dreams, things are going well in Library Land. I'll be taking charge of the Civil Service Test books in January at the downtown library. ^__^ I've also successfully ordered some books for my subject class and wrote my first monthly report. I also got my first "nut". If someone asks you to look up the word 'commandment' in the dictionary, then proceeds to disagree with you about the dictionary meaning, then goes into a suitcase to pull out their bible, then have you find a passage, then proceed to read you that passage, then proceed to give you their interpretation....back away very slowly when another librarian rescues you, then run away while the patron's back is turned. (If you get me in person, ask me to tell the story. It's much better in person. Those who have heard some of my 'library stories' can attest to that, LOL) For WSE, it seems that I may be teaching some beginner computer classes. I have to draft a class plan and figure out days to do such. Now that WSE has a projector and laptops, we can host some computer classes. I just want to test drive hooking up a laptop to the projector. I've also been preparing holiday cards & gifts to mail out. My goal is to have most packages in the mail by the end of the week for international folks, with a few domestics as well. I just need time to personalize items.
